TechUSA partners with Hopkins Biotech Network to help graduates ACE interviews

The Hopkins Biotech Network and TechUSA partnered together to educate job seekers on how to ace their next job interview. TechUSA Scientific Solutions coordinated the event along with the President of the HBN, Lauren Nelson, and the Director of Industry, Nirja Patel.

The event illustrated the three unique perspectives of what an interviewer looks for when evaluating a potential candidate. Ellen Duncan, VP Human Resources at Meso Scale Diagnostics, Valerie Moore, Technical Hiring Manager at GenVec, and Jessica Nemeth, Senior Recruiter at TechUSA, all gave informative presentations on the topic. A recent Chemistry graduate and attendee of the event, Jennifer Leffel, shares her thoughts on the seminar, "The event was informative and dispelled my myths about finding a job. The advice was especially relevant because it was given by hiring managers in the scientific field."

Each representative shared their viewpoint and interview experiences followed by an interactive Q&A session with the group. In addition to interviewing tips, more specifically Jessica touched on how to best utilize a recruiter to prepare for an interview. Ellen Duncan discussed how to best present a resume and highlight job relevant skills from a Human Resources standpoint. Valerie Moore spoke about body language and fielding tough interview questions - both how to answer them and what to ask in return. The evening provided helpful insight to a room full of eager job seekers on this much desired topic; but to some it provided more. "It also served as a pep rally, firing me up to get that interview!" said Jennifer.

TechUSA and the HBN have an ongoing relationship and will continue to sponsor similar free events for the bioscience community throughout the coming year. We hope that you will join us at Bay Café in Baltimore City on June 24th for the next networking event, BIO on the BAY!
